Lee Baron, Hong Kong. [November 20th, 2011]
The pilgrimage to Mecca. The search for the Holy-Grail…and The Overseas Appointment for Custom Suiting.
Upon deciding to visit Hong Kong, I put some serious effort into researching a tailor that would be able to whip up a few pieces for me in the short time that I would be in town. The name “Lee Baron” was suggested by a few trusted sources, so I decided to take the plunge. I was quite pleased with the quality of his work and found him a real pleasure to do business with. Caveat emptor, however: one thing to keep in mind is how much of a process working with a new tailor is. Particularly in a foreign setting. It can be a bit naive to expect someone who only has one or two fittings with you to cook up something perfect (unless you’re paying a premium for it). While I found Peter Lee of Lee Baron’s workmanship to be very good, I would urge future patrons to be firm about the specifications they require, and make sure the message comes across clearly. This is particularly important if the tailor’s House Style isn’t closely in line with what you are looking for. Bring pictures if you have to. It’s all about communication.
Oh. So what did I come away with? Stay tuned. All will be revealed shortly. One hint, think Wes Anderson’s “Fantastic Mr. Fox.”
