The Best Dressed Man Across The Pond. [June 1st, 2010]
So since the blood-letting and campaigning for Esquire Magazine’s Best Dressed Real Man contest is finally over, I thought I would take a look at my UK counterparts, and see how they are faring. It really is interesting to see how guys do it over there. Esquire UK went city by city to find Britain’s Best Dressed Man. Here are a few of the candidates:
Some pretty interesting looks. A few guys trying a bit too hard (as to be expected), but there is a marked difference between American and English looks. What do you think. Are they doing it better than these guys?

hell yes
Haha. I don’t necessarily disagree. But I think good photography goes a looong way. A lot of the UK guys were shot by Esquire. Whereas, American candidates submitted their own photos. The picture certainly doesn’t make the man, but it helps.
#2 wins. He’s on another level than rest of these guys. Look closely at what he’s attempting and thoroughly pulling off.
Hmmm, a disappointing show by and large – too many clothes that simply don’t fit (generally too small / short) regardless of whether they’re being worn in a manner which attenuates this.
I’m also intrigued by the over-representation of rolled-up pants / trousers – this isn’t something I see on the streets, but you’d get the impression it was a trend from these photos.
I agree that No. 2 is trying hard and partially succeeding, as is the gent with the beard and the pink sportcoat. I don’t get the guy in the narrow-lapel grey suit with the pink regimental tie – it’s a common look, and aside from the pocket square I can’t see anything to differentiate it – his suit certainly isn’t well fitted.
Sit outside La Duree in the Burlington Arcade with a coffee and you’ll see many looks that, IMHO top those pictured. Still, I’m inspired to wear something a little more exotic tomorrow so all is not lost.
Those Gents in the U.K always tend to do it a tad bit better. I think it comes down to fit.
No. 2 also blogs:

He’s a good friend and one of the best dressed fellows that I personally know
No. 10 is also a friend and I’d be happy with either of them winning

Thanks for the heads up. I really like Winston’s fits and use of color. I think the general consensus is that he should be the clear winner.
